crit tanking vs. avoidance don't tell my pimp

So I've been stacking crit as a Prot warrior for some time now the mentality is that more crit means more enraged uptime means more rage gen means more shield block uptime. The parent part is spacing shield block and either dumping rage for dps or with barrier. I've looked at recent logs and while they shiw I'm taking less overall damage the numbers are Askew because I haven't been paired with peejo or halc long enough to get conclusive data below are my armory and several world top Prot warriors, I'm trying to get feedback as to how it feels while healing me. I should have moments of spiky intake but not a lot because I need to adjust if so. Also if anyone else has any other input it's always welcome.....

Slam these are just my personal thoughts.

Stacking parry / dodge feels like it gives me around the same amount of crit rating after activating riposte with the extras of having more revenge procs (more rage) and completely avoiding more attacks. The only drawback compared to a crit build is a lower amount of mastery which means less critical blocks.

The thing is even with low amounts of mastery shield block is still very good and you will have around a 50% crit block chance anyways. Also if you need critical blocks to not die at any point then without a 100% chance you are leaving it up to RNG, so I would rather know im gonna reduce 30% and hit cds when needed.

So basically im saying even though both ways work the only thing you lose as riposte spec is mastery and like I said shield block is still awesome with 0% mastery. With the extra perk that its so easy to gear up as parry / dodge since no one else wants it if you go crit/mastery you will have to compete with the plate dps.

All valid points peejo! My only concern is about lowering my edps on say a shredder because in theory I should be able to be the more active of shredder tanks with more static dps combined with the increased mobility; but then again that's theory. I can always switch back to avoidance it's only digital gold and gems are relatively cheap. Just want to do what's best for the team's progression!

If you are going for the most DPS then you want to maximize your crit only. To do this you go for pieces that have crit + hit/expertise and for the slots that dont have those go parry/dodge and just gem all crit which is what most of the warriors you linked do. That being said I think while you are starting off you want to play on the defensive side of things till you get to know your healers and what the bigger dmg parts of the fights are so you can plan cds accordingly. After you have everything down you can go more on the offensive side (use dps cloak maybe even meta on some fights) and make your dps friends angry.

The add on blackfuse you can prob kill regardless since the important thing is to save dragon roar and storm bolt for after death from above and with enough stacks you can prob 1 shot it. Ive seen 13 million dragon roars on normal with like 5-6 stacks I believe, with heroic 25 vengeance should go even higher.
