Main Names

I figured it'd be a bit fun to ask people why they chose the name they use on their mains. Is it after someone? something? or just originals? Share if you care!

Mine is after this (warning, japanese/anime):

I thought Cremate represented "Fire Mage" pretty well. Then I joined AM, and everyone began calling me "Creamy", which has really hindered the rawr-factor of the name :-/

lol Creamy!

I originally joined on my holy paladin Maalpractice. The extra "a" in the name was a theme among my original toons (rogue worgen Maalwere, hunter engineer Maalfunction, another rogue Maalicious, etc.) but I stopped doing that a long time ago due to people mispronouncing them all with long A's, which sounded awkward.

Keklemor came from a D&D game with my local friends. Kelemvor is the deity of Death in the Forgotten Realms setting, and my GM has terrible handwriting. He wrote me a private note one night, and he has mispelled Kelemvor so bad that I called him out on it - it literally spelled Keklemor, and it was the funniest goddamn thing at the time. Just have to be there, I guess. :)

Sacriphage was originally known as Dallsbeep (think about it...), but was reported as "inappropriate" and I was forced to name change. The guy I suspect of reporting me... well, we had an incident over a trinket in OS3D. Tempers flared, words were said, items were ninja'd, and nothing was ever done about it. I don't recall his name exactly, but was was something like "sacredblablah", so when I recreated the name, I figured it was only appropriate. (Sacriphage basically means "devourer of the sacred"). I also had a DK by that time by the name Deiphage (devourer of the gods), so X-Phage became a thing for a short time.

The only other characters of mine with a theme are my "faith" characters - paladin Faithroll, priest 1 Faithmelt, and priest 2 Faithpalm. It's funnier when you say the names out loud.
Also have a female gnome mage called Gnomaam - a throwback to Married With Children. :)

I was listening to Sublime when I was creating my first character. Now most of my names have "Sub" somewhere in them. Sublime, Subliminal, Subverted, Fookinshift (not exactly sure what I was thinking with that last one)...lmao.

Mine came from an auto-generated pick a name in BC wow - Mynna. Changed it to Mynnah then Mynnahok or Mynnalok or Mynnahunt etc. Every damn character in all game worlds where I have the option I make a female named Mynnah-something. Mynnah Shepard the Adept (Mass Effect), Mynnah the Wood Elf Nightblade Shadow Assassin (ESO), Mynnah the prisoner (Oblivion, Fable, bunch of others start with you as a prisoner for some reason :P), Mynnah the Sniper (Fallout 3 and New Vegas). Good times, since I'm a total nerd and I like to feel connected to my character's personality. I imagine it's the same person in all those situations with all those experiences remembered in some way, like reincarnated. TMI I know. I'll just crawl back into the nerd basement.

Tiziana is my wife's name. She is a real-life healer ( I.e. Doctor) she gets a kick out of seeing her character at the load screen.

My story is a little like Mynna's I think. I auto-generated a name for my rogue back in BC. Then I took "zor" as an ending from a name I had used for a long time in other games, Vertizor ... I think maybe that has some basis in vertigo and 13 year old impression of l33tspeak? Anywho, since then my toons have all started with Rac, usually Racon ... makes sending mail so much easier :P.

Mine seems pretty damn lame by comparison. I had an auto generated name for a while. I was a gnome mage with the name of "Shirlenzil" utterly terrible. However when I was transferring him over to my last server I started looking up names and meanings that would fit a mage. I was settling on Orion which in essence means "limits". And having a toon named Noorion for No-orion just looked foolish. So I squished it and settled for Norion or "no limits"

Pippilongear

Re: Main Names

I always love reading these things about people and their choices. I am kinda shocked that so many people used the autogenerate - I agonized over most of my early toon names - it never occurred to me to autogenerate lol.

My first toon was a dwarven priest named Saintos - at the time I thought it was humorous that he looked like a hispanic missionary priest and I think I was reading about the aztec empire at the time so it kinda fit. He got lost somewhere in Arathi Basin around level 33 and I decided to leave him there wandering in the wilderness - for all I know he's still there.

My 2nd toon was my main Pippilongear. I decided to roll a druid and since the only class that was alliance druid at the time were Night elves, it wasn't much of a choice. My original intention was to roll a male druid but after panning around the male druid model caused me to vomit in my mouth, I quickly chose female. Sorry to say but the male druid hindquarters looks so ridiculous - they have a horrendous looking ass. Their whole body shape looks laughable- the only character model that is possibly worse than male night elf is a male belf. After playing around with the customization features I settled on a pigtail-style hairdo (purple maybe?) and the name Pippi Long Stockings just kinda jumped out at me. Cursing the character limit, I searched for body features that would fit the "long" description and settled on her ears (which were quite long)

Over the years she has been called many mangled versions of the name: Peepee, Pipilon, Pip Lawn Gear and my all time favorite: Ploppi Bum Smear

One of my early wow acquaintances had a naming convention for his toons - he called them all "SweetXXXX" - so his main was SweetPea, his alts were SweetSham, Sweetsmage, etc... I liked the simplicity (easy to recognize the person without having to go to the guild roster page and see whose alt it is) so I used a similar one. Alts are: Pipilongclaw (worgen warlock), Pipilonghorn (Draenei priest), Pipilongstoc (human paladin), DarkPippi (DK) and....Pippity (my newest toon - panda warrior, sorry but my panda has nothing "long" at the moment so I might name change her at some later time if I think about something interesting)

2 more interesting tidbits: I have a banking alt whose name I cannot share in good company, just that he is a bald, gnome warrior with a huge porn stache and his name starts with "Pippilong"

I have a gnome mage (the 3rd toon I created) currently named Pipilonglash. Before I server xferred her name was "Twinkletoes" and she was level 29 twink in BC. Oh how I enjoyed crushing hapless noobs, one shotting them or just taunting them by slowly whittling down their hp as they chased after her vainly. I loved to imagine what the conversation was like in the horde's BG chat. "Dude that mage just killed me again!" "Really, which one?" "....uh...Twinkletoes?" "...(long silence)..ARE YOU F'ING SERIOUS??? YOU WERE KILLED BY A TOON NAMED TWINKLETOES??? BWAHAHAHA"
