How does one get an invite to this? Is there a site to sign up on or do they just pick players at random or what? I've heard they pick long time subscribers, is there any truth to this? I've played since very early BC with absolutely no lapse in subscription.

Sub, update your beta profile in battle.net account management.
And keep an eye out for sites that have beta key giveaways.
