Transferring from PC to PC via Network

I've gotten the itch to pull out some old files (mp3's, pictures, etc) from some old harddrives I've got stacked up in the basement... After scrounging around, I found the drive with the documents I was specifically searching for... I hooked it up to a backup PC (my current pc does not utilize IDE) and started transferring the files across the network...

16gigs of music was going to take an estimated time of 13 hours to transfer... I was thinking NO WAY..

I did a little digging and found this article

Just tweak a few settings on your network adapter and now that 16gigs of is only taking an estimated time of 30 minutes (still currently transfering)... PS: it was the last option he tried (the one that worked for him)

Huge improvement and saved me from snagging 4gigs at a time to a usb stick and going back and forth and back and forth...

Figured I'd share, maybe others would find it useful.

Thanks!

and to note, the reason why it's probably going to take even that long... this harddrive is from a file server i used to run back in the mid 90's... purchased when an 80g drive was the shit and cost a couple hundred bucks. I'm assuming the simple read/write speed is what the time constraint is now.
