Why not just set up a Discord server? It's free, has the same voice quality as vent, and has much more functionality.

Thing is free still has to come from somewhere. I'm sure discord is amazing but the company couldn't possibly host the servers without numerous costs. Which would either come mostly from advertising or limited features on the server itself.

The thing that would worry me the most is the advertising. If they don't sell spaces yet they will have to in order to keep up with costs. Or they will make it subscription only like vent. Either way no sense in having everyone learn/switch over to discord only to have it wind up being the same thing more or less than Ventrilo.

discord is basically teamspeak and skype combined. I love it, and use it everyday.

Discord is always completely free to use with no gotchas. This means you can make as many servers as you want with no slot limitations.

I hope so but they also stated they will start offering micro transactions. All cosmetic though so it shouldn't be an issue so long as they don't shove the cosmetic stuff down your throat. I agree its an amazing program I'm just to pessimistic when it comes to "It will always be free"

I am in all the class channels as well as others in Discord. I give it another 1 to 2 years before ventrilo and teamspeak are pushed to the side as Discord becomes more and more popular.

I believe only 3 or 4 guildies actually every logged on to it.

I'm up for checking out discord, but it'd have to be a transitional period, nothing we can do this short-term.

Agreed and understandable. It also has a great mobile app. I use it for the class channels. I chat daily with some of the best mythic players in the game. It is a great resource to have as a player. It has also grown my stream tremendously

Decide to switch. Test the new system. Set a date when Vent server shuts off.

People will stick to what they know unless you force them.
