I would stick with a quad core processer. When I was looking at a new computer to buy, I figured the same thing.... "More cores, must mean more better (lol)." But that is far from the case, especially with AMD. I did a lot of research, and found that I was absolutely wrong.

In their current state, think of Cores as the muscle mass of an athelete. Yeah, a bulging bicept bodybuilder (six-core) has the power to lift a 500lbs weight.... but the leaner, yet still powerful basketball point gaurd (Quad-core) can run 4 times faster than the bodybuilder. And speed is what you want. The truth is, unless you are doing really high-level video manipulation, the "muscle" of the Six Cores is pointless... and will remain pointless for at least 4-6 more years (<--troll bait, im sure).

Check out the rankings of CPUs at the following link to see what I mean. They run benchmarking tests on them to see how well they perform.

CPU Benchmark Chart

Look at where your AMD falls.... and then look at the I7 2600k... only $130 more, but much better performance. I would just get 1 video card for now... and invest that money into OMG, Amazing CPU that poos on AMD. Then pick up the 2nd video card at another time. Its easier to add a video card, than swap a processor.

If youre set on buying an ASUS MOBO make damn sure you buy RAM thats on the QVL (Qualified Vendor List). This means the RAM has been tested for that MOBO. If you deviate you just may find your self having issues.

In fact on looking The RAM you have selected is not.

Also make sure you get Low density, matching pairs. I know most Mem comes in sets but you can never be to careful.

I have a similar setup and the Ripjaws are compatible

Also, I'd suggest getting a lower wattage, but better power supply; 8gigs of ram instead of 16, and only one video card. Take that money you saved and get a SSD.

I mention the QVL only because I run Asus Mobos exclusively and have found that deviating from said QVL for RAM is like playing Russian roulette. Also because it works for you may not work for others, ie different chips, lots, manufacturers, et al.

Alot of the Newer mobo's come with an installed Memok button that auto tunes ram to proper settings for compatability. Intel does slide a little past AMD in performance but with a higher price tag. Your PSU is kinda high for 2 6900's not really needed (go with 800 - 900 prefer Corsair but thats me). The Mobo is also Compatable with the Newer AMD Bulldozer which should be released within the next few months so if you can wait, id get that.

Im running
Antec Nine Hundred 2 Case
AMD Phenom II x4 965
Asus M4N75TD SLI Board
Evga GTX 560ti Superclocked
G.Skill 8gb ddr3 1333
750w Ultra Pro Series

I have a hobby of building Pc's and selling them through out the year so if you need help, pm me or send me a ingame mail at Topping or Treated.

I got to disagree with much that I have read here. As far as Quad vs Octo, the gains comparing Phenom II x4 to Phenom II x6 at stock clocks are a fair bit better. But owning a 1055t myself, and having owned a 720BE, a 955BE, a 840, an Athlon II 240, and an Athlon II 250, I have a crap ton of seat time with AII and PII offerings in all but single core sizes. And if you do plan to OC, the 6 cores are just monsters, my little 1055t rings in at 2.8ghz out of the box, I ran it for months at 3.9ghz on stock voltage with the stock air cooler (insanity). My 955 or 720 could never push those numbers even when I had them under my Watercooling kit (that is they could not 24/7, they could run a bench or 2 both around 3.8ghz). The only comparable OCing you will see from the current offerings from AMD is to go to dual core Athlon II's that have no L3. The 6 cores just OC amazingly, I honestly wouldn't even get a 1100T, they only OC better if you are dropping Dry Ice on it, you can bump the FSB and hit 3.8 - 4.0ghz without an issue.

I do agree Intels offerings at this point are better, and if you are an AMD fan you are kind of building at the wrong time (hence my 1055t suggestion). You have a 990FX board selected, and Bulldozer I believe is landing in September. So if you take the AMD route, I would consider whatever processor you chose to be a temporary one. Granted honestly if you grab any 6 core you will crush anything out there anyways. As far as worrying about the RAM being recommended, I wouldn't worry. Maybe if you basement bargain shopping and trying to get the cheapest RAM you could to go with the mobo, I would agree. But I don't see what an Asus mobo has to do with selecting RAM from their list, all companys have preferred RAM. I've used many Asus boards and many other brands with G.Skill and never ran across a problem. A lot of selections are going to be based on what you use this thing for, like I personally would probably go with 8 or 12GB or RAM thats faster.

I own a 6950 as well and love it, 2x would be more than enough to handle any game out there. But once again a new generation of GPU's is coming soon. But honestly, that setup or anything over $300 is going to dominate.

Also not a big fan of the Azza, looks like a ricer Honda with Vents and Wings in all the wrong places. I would pick one of these (but this is all personal taste)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6811119160
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6811163154 <---- If you pan on Watercooling ever this case you mount everything upside down, shows off GPU blocks very well, great aesthetics.
More Agressive Looking Cases:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6811133191

As far as the PSU goes, Rosewills aren't bad, but I would spend $10 more and get this

Enermax is teh sex. And I would't say 1000w is overkill for 2x 6950's, it's over wattage yes, but I wouldn't risk going under 900 for that pair, your building a great comp, might as well get the PSU to back it.

And if you aren't going SSD, I would say pick up some WD Black HDD's (3 of them) and run a RAID 5, it's the setup I got, much cheaper than an SSD, a ton more space, and extremely fast.

Otherwise, it looks like a solid build, and honestly, build what you want. Because with what you are putting into it, it's going to stomp anything out there anyways.
