In all honesty the two companies have always been known for their specialties.
PC: Gaming
Mac: Media
I use a Dell XPS 420 for PC games, mainly WoW, and I have a MacBook Pro for school, photoshop, film-editing for my pvp videos, etc. So like I said, it all depend on what you want the computer for.
And, if you just want an "overall" computer, well still, think about whether you want it to be portable, or a desktop, then thinking about you want it for gaming more than media, or vice-versa.
One good thing about the mac's are the fact that they can very rarely obtain a virus because most viruses are developed in a .doc format (if I'm not mistaken) and mac cannot read that format.
So, all in all, I would recommend getting a really good PC, you either can find someone to talk to about building your on, but the downside is you're not really going to be able to call a company to ask for support. Or you can go to alienware.com or some good gaming websites that build you a gaming computer. If you're not good with computers, but you're still at least cautious of what you click on, etc. I would go with getting a computer from a gaming website and letting them build it that way you can have a support line to help you out along with making updating your computer much more simpler.
With all that said, I hope you get what you are looking for.
