Help me pick out a wireless router....

I'm completely and utterly fed up with this stupid Linksys Wireless Router.

Every couple days I have to unplug it and replug it to get it to work, both for the wired and wireless connected devices... I'll sit down at the computer, see no internet detected and I have to unplug it for a couple seconds and replug the power and it works just fine.

The signal strength is also lackluster at best.

I lived by Linksys back in the day, have always loved their networking equipment, but ever since Cisco bought them, its really taken a turn for the worse.

I'm looking for a high speed wireless router. Any recommendations? I've used a few brands over the years but I just don't know whats good and not good anymore. I really don't want to spend a lot, maybe around the $50 range. It doesn't have to be too fancy, the only devices that connect wireless would be our androids, my WII, the wife's new printer... that's it. Both of our desktop PC's connected with a wire, so I do need at least a couple ports to connect with a cat5

oh, I also notice that whenever i activate my wifi on my droid thats when it seems to stop the router completely.

Like today, my 3G was running slow, so I turned on WIFI, got my web page to load on my phone, then bam I lose wifi and then my desktop also had no internet either :(

3 Options, maybe others have alternatives:

You could have someone leaching off of your connection, not sure if you have a password on it or not, might want to check it out. Prolly do though.

Could need a firmware updated depending on its age:

http://homesupport.cisco.com/en-us/support

Or you can go an check out what other people say about the products. I like this site because it is usually the cheapest you will find on the net and returns are easy peasy. I have a Verizon wireless router... I think it is a Motorola one, and the only time I have an issue with it is when I use a bit-torrent program downloader. Doesnt seem to like the ports the program tries to use I guess. I usually have to reboot to get it to sort is self out again and not bog down afterwards. I had a D-Link before and didnt like because of the options in the routers programming, but things might have changed since then. Others do seem to like them though. Anyway, the site I recommend for info and products:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100010076%204802&IsNodeId=1&name=Top%20Sellers

A bit generic but it is a direction.

ive owned 2 of these, had one at my parents house and loved it so much i bought one for my apartment. its a true dual band so you have g and n signals at the same time and ive never had issues with it as my computer i raid on is wireless.

I second Deathpal's vote, I have used that exact netgear router for quite a while and have hardly had any problems.
The only downside, is the damned blue dome light is actually really bright, so make sure to hang on to the shroud that comes in the packaging, you will want to use it fairly quickly.

Using the same one Death suggests. No problems for about a year now.

resurrecting this post to show my new router...

I went with a Netgear WNDR3700

I don't expect a big difference in performance as thats not what I'm getting a new router for... my current one keeps disconnecting randomly throughout the day requiring a reboot and once rebooted it gives out the same IP address to multiple connected devices, also again requiring another reboot

Edit: And the signal strength SUCKS... i cant even get a signal downstairs in my living room.

Just before Setup:

from my PC (wired):

Download: 23.90 mb/s
Upload: .98 mb/s
Ping: 17ms

from my droid (wireless):

Download: 18.46 mb/s
Upload: 1.61 mb/s
Ping: 21ms

Server: datacenter.bz in Columbus OHIO

new router:

from my PC (wired):

Download: 24.60 mb/s
Upload: .98 mb/s
Ping: 15ms

from my droid (wireless):

Download: 21.50 mb/s
Upload: 1.64 mb/s
Ping: 22ms

Little speed increase on PC Download and Droid upload, as expected... lets see how long it stays connected! :)
