Bye bye Steam

Having been an avid player of CS:S and TF2, I doubt I will ever touch either again once Overwatch releases. The beta has been a blast today. Anyone else been playing?

You can't really compare the two all that much. Arma is an open world military simulator with mod support.

Overwatch is more of an arcade twitch shooter that is match based. No mod support, but it is a whole ton of fun. There are 21 different classes to choose from that are entirely different from each other. Competitive/ranked play in beta has been pretty good so far, I can see myself having a team of people to play with and rank up. IMO it is 100% worth the $40 since all future maps and heroes are also free, if you enjoy shooters of course.

Add me if you want to party up

I have played about half the characters so far to get a feel for their game play. so far i am enjoying Bastion the most. I love the turret style of just blow them all up and then keep shooting more style. Plus his ult is pretty sick; pop it and roll into a group of the enemy team and literally kill them all in 3 shots/seconds.

Fun game!

Had a excellent night with a group of 6 from "WE" to end the massive beta this weekend. Had a blast and looking forwarded to playing it with the guild. Can't wait to start up ranked play!

I enjoyed my time playing Overwatch, but for me, three things are big hang ups...

#1
$60 for a game with no Single Player campaign? Call of Duty, Halo, and Battlefield all have single player content for that price. CSGO and TF2 do not... but they have never cost more than $20. And with all of the awesome lore tied to these characters, the single player would have been EPIC! Blizzard is getting a bit full of itself to be putting out half a game, at full game price.

#2
In every modern game Blizzard has put out, they relentlessly fuck up the classes periodically. In Starcraft, they will reduce the health of certain unit comps that they feel are "too popular"... in Diablo III they will increase the cooldown of specific abilities they feel aren't "fun"... in WoW they tweak and screw classes in every patch. They don't believe in "If it's not broke, don't fix it." Blizzard creates content longevity by forcing people to relearn or reroll to the numerous pointless tweaks they make. And I don't enjoy that sort of development. I don't want to learn a class, love a class, and devote countless hours to a class... only to have it made worthless the next patch they put out. It infuriated me for years in WoW, and if I start playing Overwatch, and they are doing the same thing, I will drop the game in a heartbeat.

#3
I think the cosmetic crate system in Overwatch sucks. Compared to TF2 or CSGO the number of available cosmetics is just plain tiny. I personally like the collectible crates that are in games like H1Z1 or CSGO... I like finding really rare items to show off... or trade... or gift. With the limited 100 or so cosmetics in Overwatch, everyone will have all of them within just a few short months. Granted, the game is not F2P and microtransactions in a game that already costs $60 would be harsh.

I think the number of items will go beyond what you can get in CS:GO in a matter of a month or two after release.

There are over 600 different skins in CSGO, and about the same number of stickers. Dunno about a few months. But I do hope so. I just hope they have enough that there is some rarity to the the good ones.

I thought I saw a campaign mode grayed out during beta. Did I not?
