Calling All Nerds! Calling all Nerd!

Hello fine ladies and gentleman.

I need some advise from the most computer savvy of the guild members. I am building my own computer, and I am an extremely meticulous shopper. I have been watching literal hours of reviews, unboxxings, benchmarks, etc... to try and figure out which route I wanted to go. Please look over the configuration below, and let me know if you see any compatibility issues, or pieces that you have had an outright issue with in the past.

I'm putting down the two builds which I have been going back and forth on for the last week. I can't decide between the AMD FX-8350 and the I7-3770. Thats right, there is no "k" on the end of the 3770, as I do not plan on overclocking.

Build #1
Case: Rosewill Blackhawk Mid-Tower
Processor: AMD FX 8350 Vishera Eight Core 4.0Ghz
Motherboard: Gigabyte 990FX UD5 AM3+
GPU: HIS IceQ Radeon 7870 Ghz Edition
RAM Memory: 2 x 8Gb G.Skill Ripjaw X Series
Total Price: $790

Pros: Most powerful Eight Core Processor on the market. Less expensive. Benchmarking about halfway between the i5-3570 and the i7-3770... which are the two current monsters on the Intel side. It completely smashes the 2600 and 2600k which many gamers are running in their systems built prior to 2012.

Cons: It's an early generation Eight Core, hardly impressive benchmarks considering the increased resources available on the chip. The i7-3770 outshines it in every single way except price point. AMD has reduced compatibility with some features of the GTX GPUs which I would prefer for the PhysX technology.

Build #2
Case: Rosewill Blackhawk Mid-Tower
Processor: Intel i7-3770 Four Core 3.6Ghz
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z77 UD4
GPU: MSI 2Gb GTX 660ti
RAM Memory: 2 x 8Gb G.Skill Ripjaw X Series
Total Price: $951

Pros: Faster than the FX 8350. Intel GPU with full PhysX support for enhanced visual gaming. Intel has better memory handling.

Cons: More expensive. Only four cores (futureproof?).

I keep swapping back and fourth between my choice of builds. Money is a factor, but I would be willing to spend the extra cash on the Intel build if I thought it was as futureproof as the Eight Core processor. Even though the AMD 8350 is slightly slower than the i7-3770 the benchmarks seem to only be utilizing 4 core processing. If benchmarks were optimized for 8 core processing, would the 8350 be faster?

If any of you have thoughts, or see some compatibility issues in the builds that I did not recognize, please let me know. I'm not looking to debate Intel vs AMD as full product line companies... I am just looking for advise on these particular builds.

I'd go for the first one, but that's my opinion, and lots of people don't care for it :P. Because I follow K.I.S. Keep It Simple, why spend more money that that shit, go for the first, you'll do fine. And if you find yourself having lag issues, purchase a Killer™ E2200 for ethernet or a Killer™ Wireless-N 1102, if wireless is your spheel, product states you'll get boosted an extra 20 FPS, worlds only gaming network card

what is the budget your trying to keep within there buddy. personally i am an intel guy all the way, i have built an AMD system and it performs no were near what my intel system does. in all honesty there is no reason to go over 4 cores as programs out there barely use the first 2. unless you are heavy into video editing then there is no reason for it.

here is something i came up with real quick

case : raidmax tornado http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811156223
processor : i5 -3470 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115234
mobo : gigabyte ga-z77x http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128583
power : rosewill hive series 750w http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182133
gpu : asus gtx660 2gb http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121660
ram : gskill ripjaw x series http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231568
ssd : kingston 300v series http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820721107
cpu cooler : corsair h50 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181010

total is about $1016, only other thing you would need is an operating system. this would be more than enough for years to come in my opinion. intel has hit a homerun with there 1155 socket i series cpu's. the corsair series water coolers are very nice as they are closed loop systems and require no maintenance. if your going with a high end cpu why not keep it cooler and make it last longer. ssd's are honestly the way to go now for operating system installs, have other hdd's for the rest of the stuff but OS's and primary programs on the ssd will be more efficient. 750w power supply will power the gpu with room to spare. just my thoughts. i will be building another tower once i sell the one im using right now :D

Hello Cremate, Nice to see you are doing well.

I would like to introduce you to Tech Reports Build guide: http://techreport.com/review/24350/system-guide-current They keep it current every few months. I would HIGHLY suggest the "Sweet Spot".

first its not polite to call us nerds when youre one yourself
two you once told me gaming is your hobby splurge a little make a machine thats gona last you a long time and handle what ever new digital crack that comes your way and honestly some money now means you wont have to upgrade parts in a year or two
three go intel
four build it yourself youll love it more
five do what cremate does best (or else you wont be happy with your rig)
stoner moment over has nice day

Thats the problem. I think four core processors are going to be fading to the past quickly in the next year or so. Intel already has a 6 core processor, and AMD has its 8 core. I know the AMD 8 core falls behind in current tests against the high end Intel 4 core, but will it still fall behind when benchmarked with programs in the upcoming years that are actually optimized to use all 8 cores, over 4?

the only thing people will be using the 6 and 8 core processors for is bragging power. unless u do alot of video editing and stuff like that there is no reason for it. the tower i have right now uses 2 of the 4 cores 99% of the time with the occasional splurge onto the 3rd sometimes. the only time my 4th core was being used so far was when i was doing my burn in test with Prime 95 maxing out all the cores and all the ram for 24 hours to make sure nothing failed. Do as you wish but 4 cores will keep you happy for years to come IMOP.

I half read some of the posts in here. But here is my quick $.02.

Intel for performance, AMD for cheap. Nvidia for performance, ATI for cheap.

i5 for gaming, i7 for 3D graphics and video rendering. You mentioned to me that you were interested in livestreaming the raids. An i5 would be more than enough to do so. However, if you feel that you'd be more comfortable with an i7, do it. It certainly wont hurt to get a 4 core processor, you just dont "NEED" one all the time. The i7 you linked in your original post is kind of the bread and butter for builds these days. Another thing you should keep in mind is that intel is coming out with their next gen of processors soon. I know you need a new computer now, just wanted to throw it out there that it might drop in price when those come out.

As for CPU coolers - unless you're overclocking a stock one that comes with cpu's is fine if you're tight on money.

gtg for now but I'll touch more on it later tonight if I remember.
